Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has withdrawn his petition seeking the removal of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, granting the embattled party official a temporary reprieve.
Through his lawyers, Oketch formally communicated the decision in a letter addressed to the ODM Chairperson on Tuesday, January 6.
The withdrawal was attributed to consultations with the party’s senior leadership and a desire to uphold the legacy of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The lawyers explained that the decision followed engagements with ODM Party Leader Senator Oburu Oginga and was guided by Odinga’s long-standing belief in dialogue as the most effective way of resolving internal party disputes, even in the face of deep disagreements.
Despite withdrawing the petition, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch’s legal team clarified that the concerns raised against ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna remain valid and have not been abandoned.
They said Oketch agreed to drop the motion in favour of resolving the dispute internally through established ODM mechanisms.
The lawyers noted that the decision was reached after consultations with party leadership, opting to invoke provisions of the ODM constitution rather than pursue the removal process.
In the initial petition, Oketch had accused Sifuna of misconduct, indiscipline and undermining the party, alleging repeated violations of the party constitution and the Political Parties Act, including associating with rival political outfits while acting as ODM’s Secretary General and spokesperson
