Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has fired back at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over comments about the state of Sindo Road in Homa Bay County.
In a statement released on Wednesday, December 31, Mbadi accused the ODM Party Secretary General of unfairly criticizing the road project.
Mbadi further argued that the Luo community, which has historically been at the forefront of Kenya’s political struggles, should now focus on economic empowerment.

On Tuesday, December 30, during the burial of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna highlighted delays caused by poor road conditions in Sindo, explaining that he and his family faced challenges reaching Lugari.
The 74-kilometre Mbita–Sindo–Kiabuya–Sori Road project, launched by President Ruto in October 2023, links Homa Bay and Migori counties and is expected to open a crucial transport corridor connecting fishing towns, farmlands, and key trading centres along Lake Victoria.
According to the Interior Principal Secretary, the project is already transforming the region’s economic landscape by improving connectivity, boosting trade, and enhancing access to markets.
The road, which passes through Ruma National Park and fertile agricultural zones, is attracting new investments in tourism and the blue economy, including hotels, landing sites, and fish processing ventures.
Additionally, it is improving access to schools, health facilities, and government services, contributing to inclusive socio-economic growth.
