Jirongo’s Widow Opens Up on How She Received News of His Passing

The family of the late Cyrus Jirongo struggled to come to terms with the reality of his death following the tragic road accident that claimed his life.

The former Lugari MP died on December 13 after being involved in a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.

Speaking during Jirongo’s requiem mass held in Nairobi on Saturday, December 27, one of his widows, Anne Jirongo, recounted the final moments she shared with him before the fatal accident.

She recalled that on December 12, the two briefly spent time together outside a Nairobi shopping mall, where Jirongo shared details of his plans for the day.

“On the 12th of December, on Jamhuri Day, Cyrus called me at around 12:34 pm, and we spoke for about 3 minutes and 45 seconds. He called again at around 2:30 am and asked me where I was, and I told him that I was in the supermarket. He said he wanted to see me, so he drove to where I was…He told me he was going to dream and build my castles in the office, but later he would be going to see Speaker Wetang’ula,” Anne recalled.

Anne Jirongo revealed that she received the call breaking the news of her husband’s accident at around 3:20 am on December 13.

She was shocked to hear from a stranger that her husband had been involved in a road accident.

The family immediately set out for Naivasha, where Jirongo’s car had crashed. Initially, the news was difficult to comprehend, as Jirongo had last been in Karen and was expected to travel to his home in Gigiri.

Upon arrival, as they arranged for a rescue mission to fly him to Nairobi, authorities informed them that he had already died.

Jirongo passed away after his Mercedes-Benz crashed at Karai along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.
