At least two people have died and several others sustained injuries after a fire engulfed homes in the Mashimoni area of Laini Saba, Kibra Constituency, Nairobi.
The blaze reportedly started on Monday night in one house before quickly spreading to neighboring residential buildings, displacing hundreds of families.
Eyewitnesses said the fire broke out while most residents were asleep, and local efforts to control it were unsuccessful.

Kibra MP Peter Orero confirmed that two bodies have been recovered, with search operations still ongoing.
According to the legislator’s statement released on Tuesday morning, both bodies were severely burnt, and the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
He added that firefighting and emergency response teams had been deployed and were in the final stages of containing the blaze, with most of the fire now under control.
Emergency, security, and disaster response personnel remain on the ground to secure the area and complete containment efforts.
Social media footage showed several houses engulfed in smoke as residents struggled to control the fire or watched from a distance.
While the cause of the fire is still unknown, some locals are calling on the government to take measures to prevent similar incidents in the densely populated estate.
