Noise Rule Crackdown: NEMA Shuts Clubs in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kilifi

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has closed several entertainment venues in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kilifi for failing to comply with noise pollution regulations.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, December 2, the authority stated that the affected establishments had not met the conditions outlined in earlier environmental restoration orders.

The venues ordered to shut down include Kettle House on Muthangari Drive; Boba Drinks and Café in Kilimani; Speedy’s Bar and Restaurant on Watamu Beach Road; Bar Next Door on Othaya Road in Kilimani; and Emirates Lounge in the Pipeline area.

Also affected are Infusion Lounge and Status Lounge, both located in Ruaka along Limuru Road, as well as Kifaru Place along Mombasa Road.

NEMA noted that it continued to receive noise pollution complaints from the listed establishments despite earlier warnings, prompting the enforcement action.

The authority has directed the affected venues to close immediately, conduct a fresh Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), obtain the required licenses, and install proper soundproofing to curb further noise violations.

It also instructed them to carry out a noise survey to ensure full compliance with environmental regulations.
