KAA Responds to Viral Footage of Vehicles Driving on JKIA Airside

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued a clarification following a viral video showing a convoy of SUVs driving into the restricted airside section of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 2, the agency explained that the footage captured a protocol-approved motorcade on October 8, 2025.

The vehicles were part of the official entourage for the Prime Minister of an African nation who arrived at 5:07 p.m. to attend the 24th COMESA Summit in Nairobi.

KAA noted that the summit brought together several Heads of State and senior officials from COMESA member countries, and the visiting Prime Minister was received at the airport by a Cabinet Secretary.

KAA further clarified that the airside access was granted strictly in line with the established security procedures and protocols reserved for state and diplomatic visitors.

The authority underscored that these measures are routine during high-profile international events hosted at JKIA and are implemented under stringent aviation security regulations.

According to KAA, such arrangements are designed to ensure seamless operations, uphold international safety standards, and guarantee the protection of visiting dignitaries throughout their movements within the airport.
