CCTV Reveals Journalist Amos Maina’s Final Moments in Mirema Bar

CCTV footage has revealed the final moments of Standard Group Media journalist Amos Harun Maina before he collapsed and died at a bar in Mirema, Nairobi, on November 16.

In the video obtained by KTN, Maina is seen drinking with several bar attendants before suddenly collapsing while still seated.

A post-mortem later indicated that he had ingested a poisonous substance, prompting detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a probe into the incident.

The footage shows Maina entering the bar at about 4:18 pm on the fateful Sunday and approaching a table where a man and a woman were seated.

He greeted both the man and the woman before moving to another table. By 4:30 pm, he had shifted again, this time joining a group of revellers and taking a drink with them.

At around 4:50 pm, a woman approached and joined him. The two exchanged a brief conversation before Maina returned to his drink.

The footage then captured Harun playing pool for a short while. At 5:05 pm, he went back to his table, sipped his drink, and later returned to the pool area.

At 5:08 pm, another woman joined him. By 5:23 pm, he walked away from the two women he had been chatting with for about five minutes.

Later, at 7:47 pm, Maina ordered another drink, which was delivered to his table. The waitress who served him sat with him, and a second woman joined soon after.

At 7:56 pm, both women left, leaving Harun alone.

Moments later, the previously jovial journalist suddenly appeared to doze off at the table and remained motionless for nearly an hour, until around 9 pm.

At 9:22 pm, Harun’s head fell backward, a moment believed to be when he died. CCTV footage shows a bartender trying to lay him on the table.

His brother arrived at 10:49 pm and tried to wake him, only to discover that Harun was already dead. DCI detectives are expected to release the toxicology report next week.
