Grandfather Among Three Penalised in Narok for FGM Offence

A Narok court has sentenced three people in relation to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) practices.

Among those convicted included the grandfather of the minor and the owner of the place for allowing the offence to take place.

The grandfather was fined Ksh. 200,000 or two years in prison in case he defaulted.

The two were found guilty on two accounts of crime.

The first count was failing to report the commission of FGM where each was fined KSh 200,000 or two years’ imprisonment in default.

On the second count of aiding and abetting the performance of FGM they received the same penalty: KSh 200,000 fine or two years’ imprisonment.

The court further fined each of them KSh 15,000 for failing to protect a child from harmful cultural practices.
