“Gor Watashinda ligi”: AFC Leopards’ Fans Give Up Early on Title Challenge

AFC Leopards

AFC Leopards have had a mixed start to their Kenyan Premier League season, and it seems some of the fans are already losing hope.

Despite being third-placed in the table after eight games, their inconsistency has left some of the die-hards believing their wait for a premiership title will have to continue.

After their first loss of the season to Mara Sugar, a 2-0 defeat, the team dubbed Ingwe, went on to draw at home vs Murang’a Seal, in a disappointing goalless action at Nyanyo Stadium.

This left many of their fans believing that the team is not yet ready to fight with their biggest rivals, Gor Mahia, who are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table.

After their recent draw, Whispers Wire got to chat with some of their fans who expressed their disappointment at their team’s inability to thrash Murang’a, who they believed were there for the taking.

Some even saw it as a loss owing to how the Mt. Kenya-based club dominated the game, with others noting it was the worst performance they had watched from their beloved Ingwe.

Speaking to some of the fans, it was clear that they were not on the same page regarding the upcoming derby match against Gor Mahia set for November 30, with some even predicting a loss in the derby.

One lady in particular noted that Gor was going to win the derby game and would eventually win the league, owing to their great start to the season.

She noted that Murang’a Seal was an easy game to win and concluded that the best AFC would get out of the 25/26 season was a top-three finish.

Despite some of the male fans arguing that she was not a loyal Ingwe fan, the lady noted she was just being realistic after watching her beloved team show a lack of quality and fight to win an ‘easy’ game at home.

“Gor inabeba league, kama AFC inachapwa na team ndogo, watu wa mawaru, sasa ndo tuchape Gor? Gor inabeba league I swear. Niko serious, sisi tunakula ugali na tunachapwa na team ndogo. AFC inabeba number three ama two, sina matumaini hapo,” she said.

Before the much-anticipated derby game, AFC will have to face a tricky opponent in Kariobangi Sharks, a team known for its quality football and fielding young stars who are never afraid to go against the big boys in the league.

As for Gor Mahia, they will be facing Tusker FC at home in Game Week 10, before the clash against their biggest rivals.

K’Ogalo’s new manager, Charles Akonnor, is also enjoying life in the league after being crowned October Manager of the Month, with his player, Shariff Musa, also being named October’s Player of the Month.
