The Dadaab area in Garissa County has experienced multiple assaults in recent months, with attackers frequently using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target Kenyan police officers.
In one of the recent incidents in May 2025, three officers survived an early-morning IED attack at 6 am.
Their Land Cruiser patrol vehicle suffered major front-end damage, but the officers survived after the bomb detonated prematurely.
In October, Kenya’s elite Special Operations Group (SOG) intercepted another planned attack, arresting eight suspected militants in the Eelmerer-Yumbia area of Garissa County.
The suspects were reportedly assembling IEDs when intelligence from local residents prompted an immediate intervention by security forces.
