Talanta City Sports Stadium

On Friday, November 14th, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, inspected the ongoing construction of the Talanta Sports City Stadium, a flagship project set to transform Kenya’s sporting landscape.

During the inspection, CS Mvurya confirmed that 65% of the construction works have been completed, with the stadium expected to be ready in early 2026.

The stadium is envisioned as a centrepiece for Kenya’s preparation to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and its progress marks a significant milestone in the country’s sports infrastructure development.

Mvurya emphasised that the project is not only about building a world-class facility but also about creating opportunities for Kenyans. He revealed that 85% of the workforce on site are Kenyan nationals, underscoring the government’s commitment to empowering local talent and ensuring that the benefits of the project are felt across communities.

Opportunities for Traders and Local Communities

Beyond the pitch and stands, Talanta City Stadium is designed to be a hub of economic activity. CS Mvurya announced that once complete, the stadium will feature dedicated stalls for traders, giving Kenyan entrepreneurs a chance to sell food, merchandise, and other items during events.

This initiative is expected to create a ripple effect of economic growth, providing livelihoods for small-scale traders and enhancing the stadium’s role as a community-centred facility.

The inspection also highlighted the government’s focus on timely delivery. With construction already past the halfway mark, the project team is working to meet the set deadlines.

Mvurya assured Kenyans that the stadium will not only meet international standards but also reflect the country’s ambition to host major tournaments and showcase its sporting excellence.

The Talanta Sports Stadium stands as a symbol of Kenya’s determination to invest in sports and infrastructure while uplifting its people. As the countdown to completion continues, anticipation grows for a venue that will inspire athletes, empower traders, and unite fans under one roof.
