World Champion Beatrice Chebet Receives Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters

World champion Beatrice Chebet been awarded her Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during a university’s 13th graduation ceremony in Kericho County.

The award recognizes Chebet’s extraordinary impact on global athletics, cementing her status not only as a record-breaking runner.

The university described the honour as a tribute to her “remarkable achievements, discipline, and historic contributions to the advancement of athletics worldwide.”

Beatrice Chebet is a long-distance runner who is the world record holder in the 5000 metres, the women’s only and mixed 5 kilometre run, and the 10,000 metres.

She won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 5000 m and 10,000 m races, becoming the third woman in history to win both events at the same Olympic games.
