7 Footballers Among Victims of Tanzania Unrest

Viral Scout Management, a Dar es Salaam–based sports management agency, has confirmed the deaths of seven young footballers amid the ongoing unrest in Tanzania.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 3, the firm said the players, aged between 15 and 22, were allegedly shot dead at their homes in Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, and Mwanza.

In the emotional statement, the agency condemned the killings, describing them as an assault on the country’s youth and on football itself.

Meanwhile, the United States Embassy in Tanzania has raised alarm over worsening conditions in parts of Dar es Salaam, warning of severe shortages of essential goods and widespread communication disruptions.

In an update on Monday, the embassy reported dwindling supplies of food, fuel, and cash in several areas, adding that flight operations had also been affected.

The embassy also reminded U.S. citizens and residents to observe the ongoing nationwide curfew and movement restrictions.
