Harambee Starlets Qualify for 2026 Women’s AFCON

The Harambee Starlets have booked their place in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after defeating Gambia 4-1 on aggregate.

In the decisive second leg of the final qualification round, played at the Stade Lat Dior in Thiès, Senegal, on Tuesday, October 28, the Starlets sealed a 1-0 victory courtesy of Mwanalima Adam Jeroko’s 50th-minute strike.

Kenya had taken a strong lead in the first leg at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, October 24, with goals from Adam, Fasila Adhiambo, and teenage sensation Shalyne Opisa ensuring a 3-1 win that set the stage for their qualification success.

The 4-1 aggregate victory over Gambia has propelled the Harambee Starlets back to the continental stage for the first time in nine years.

The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be hosted in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.

Following the team’s qualification, President Ruto congratulated the Starlets for their outstanding performance and pledged to reward them for securing a place in the prestigious tournament.
