DPP Secures 20-Year Jail Term in Kibera Defilement Case

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has recently secured a 20-year imprisonment sentence against a man convicted of defiling a 15-year-old girl.

In a statement, the DPP revealed that the conviction at the Kibera High Court followed a well-coordinated prosecution led by Michael Mutune.

He presented six compelling witnesses who detailed how the accused took advantage of the minor while her mother was away doing casual jobs.

While delivering the ruling, Principal Magistrate Hon. Murage underscored the serious nature of the offence and the vulnerability of the young victim, noting that the act was committed under deeply predatory and exploitative circumstances.

The magistrate emphasized that such crimes not only inflict lasting physical and emotional harm on minors but also undermine public trust and safety within the community.

The court further observed that the accused, who had been released on bond during the trial, absconded in February 2024, forcing the prosecution to seek his re-arrest.

His disappearance caused significant delays in the proceedings, a factor the magistrate said reflected a lack of remorse and respect for the judicial process.

In sentencing the accused to 20 years in prison, the court stated that the penalty was meant to serve as a strong warning and deterrent to anyone who exploits or harms children.
