Kalonzo Refutes Allegations of Fueling Rumours About Raila’s Health

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has responded to accusations from Raila Odinga’s team alleging that he was behind rumours surrounding the former prime minister’s health.

On Sunday, October 5, Raila’s secretariat issued a statement clarifying his health status following widespread claims that he was critically ill and admitted to a Nairobi hospital.

While the statement sought to address speculation about Raila’s whereabouts, it also took a sharp swipe at figures within the United Opposition.

Through Raila’s spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, the secretariat directly accused Kalonzo, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and DAP–Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa—among others—of allegedly funding and spreading misinformation about Raila’s health for political gain.

The secretariat clarified that Raila had travelled abroad on routine business unrelated to health concerns, emphasizing that “he is not indisposed, as prayed for by his frustrated opponents.”

However, Kalonzo was quick to respond to the accusations.

Through the Wiper Party, he dismissed the statement from Raila’s secretariat as an outburst driven by fear and insecurity over the former prime minister’s political future.

The Wiper leader maintained that he holds no ill will toward Raila, stressing that wishing him harm would be “the last thing” he would ever do.

He further argued that the secretariat’s remarks were a diversion from what he termed as growing confusion within the ODM party, which is currently collaborating with the ruling UDA administration.

Wiper also distanced itself from Raila’s recent political setbacks, including his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship earlier this year.

The party asserted that Raila’s waning influence was a consequence of his decision to align with President William Ruto’s regime — not any actions by Kalonzo or his allies.
