Raila Breaks Silence on Viral Claims About His Health

Former Prime  Minister and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, has dismissed social media claims that he is unwell.

In a statement released on Sunday, October 5, Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango accused the opposition camp led Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating the misinformation.

The spokesperson claimed that the united opposition team is trying to bully Raila into supporting their political fight against President Ruto.

Onyango in the statement went on to clarify that the former Prime Minister travelled out of the country on Friday, October 3 further pointing out that Raila has always been transparent about his health.

He cited past instances when he publicly disclosed medical procedures during his time as Prime Minister in 2010 and when he contracted COVID-19 in 2021.

Additionally, he said the ODM leader is committed to the ideals of a broad-based government and his belief in national unity through compromise.

Onyango’s clarification came amid growing speculation on social media about Raila Odinga’s health.

The rumours gained traction after the ODM leader remained out of the public eye for nearly two weeks, prompting questions about his whereabouts and well-being, with some users falsely alleging that he had been hospitalized.

Raila reappeared on Friday, October 3, when he met ODM officials to plan the party’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations.

Following the meeting, the party announced that the main celebrations, initially scheduled for October 10–12, 2025, in Mombasa, had been postponed to November 14–16, 2025, after a consultative review.
