2 Kenyans Missing After Alleged Abduction in Uganda

Two Kenyan activists, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, were reportedly abducted in Kampala, Uganda, on Wednesday, October 1, by armed men suspected to be security operatives.

The duo had been accompanying National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, during his campaigns ahead of Uganda’s 2026 presidential elections.

Media reports indicate that the activists left Kenya by road on Monday, September 29, in the company of two Ugandans.

After arriving in Kampala, their Ugandan companions returned home while Njagi and Oyoo joined Bobi Wine’s campaign team.

The pair were last seen on Tuesday, September 30, alongside Wine and other NUP leaders as they campaigned in Buyende and Kamuli districts.

Their trip took a grim turn when they stopped at a petrol station to fix their car, where witnesses say they were suddenly confronted by four armed men.

The attackers reportedly forced Njagi and Oyoo into a waiting vehicle, while a companion managed to flee.

Moments later, the vehicle sped away and both activists’ phones went dead, fueling fears that the abduction was politically motivated because of their association with Bobi Wine.

VOCAL Africa has condemned the abduction, urging authorities to move quickly to secure the activists’ release.

The incident draws parallels to the case of Boniface Mwangi, who in May was deported from Tanzania and abandoned in Ukunda, Kwale County, after raising concerns for his safety.

Mwangi had travelled to monitor the treason trial of opposition figure Tundu Lissu, but days earlier had reported being trailed by unidentified armed men outside his hotel room in Dar es Salaam.
