A 40-year-old man has passed away in police custody, days after his arrest.
The deceased, Alan Kamau Kimani, was reportedly arrested on September 25, 2025, for allegedly cutting down trees.
According to Hussein Khalid, CEO of VOCAL Africa, a police officer had called her to inform her of her son’s arrest before she went to the station to see him.
Receiving a call from Kimani’s mother, the mother claimed that she was asked to pay Ksh 15,000 bail for Kimani to be released, which she did not have.
A few hours later on the same day, she received a call from the same officer informing her of her son’s death.
The mother further said that after inquiring about what happened, the officer allegedly told her that Kimani died by suicide while in custody.
