Abdul Noormohamed Appointed Chair of Katiba Institute Board

Katiba Institute has named Abdul Noormohamed as the new chairperson of its Board of Directors.

In a statement released on Friday, March 26, the Katiba Institute stated that Noormohamed will succeed Professor Jill Cottrell Ghai, who will continue to serve as a board member. 

Noormohamed is the Director of Civic Voice, an initiative dedicated to amplifying youth-led civic engagement, tech justice, and democratic renewal.

He previously served as Vice President for Africa at Luminate, where he led regional strategy on digital rights, civic participation, and public interest media.

Noormohamed is a seasoned human rights advocate and policy strategist with extensive experience in governance and law. 

He previously served as the Executive Director of the Kenya Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ–Kenya) and has held grant-making positions with the Open Society Foundations in Eastern Africa.

Earlier in his career, he worked as Head of Legal and Redress at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.

He currently sits on the board of the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) and is a member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association’s Human Rights and Rule of Law Committee.

Academically, Noormohamed holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Public International Law from University College London and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Nairobi. 

He is also a Chevening Scholar.
