Busia Land Registrar Nabbed by EACC for Alleged Bribery

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have apprehended a Busia Land Registrar Collins Aiela Liyayi for allegedly demanding and receiving a bribe of Ksh10,000.

In a statement, EACC disclosed that the suspect demanded the bribe to release a title deed.

According to the commission, Liyayi had processed the complainant’s title deed but withheld it, demanding a bribe.

The Busia Land Registrar was arrested on Tuesday, September 23 afternoon in an operation mounted by EACC’s Western Regional Office.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealed that it had received several complaints from Busia residents accusing Land Registrar Collins Aiela Liyayi of withholding title deeds at the Lands Registry and demanding bribes before releasing them to rightful owners.

Following his arrest, Liyayi was taken to the EACC Western Regional Office in Bungoma for processing before being booked at Bungoma Police Station. 

He is expected to be arraigned in court to face bribery charges.

EACC noted that the arrest is part of its ongoing nationwide crackdown on corruption in public service delivery, aimed at ensuring citizens can access services without harassment or extortion.
