EACC Storms Garissa County Offices in Ongoing Corruption Investigation

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on September 17, conducted raids targeting senior officials of the Garissa County Government over alleged procurement irregularities.

In a statement, EACC noted that the operation targeted the Head of County Treasury, Abdi Ali Nuriye and Mohamed Daud Korow, the Chief Finance Officer.

Residences and offices of Mohamed Abdi Hassan, Director of Supply Chain Management, and Abdiwahab Omar Guye, the Former Director of Procurement, were also raided.

According to a report by EACC, the projects under scrutiny include the tender for the construction of a new terminal wing at Garissa Airstrip and the construction of a perimeter wall and pavilion at Garissa Primary School.

Other matters under investigation include the provision of medical insurance, catering services for county officials, and payments linked to ghost workers allegedly on the county payroll.

EACC also confirmed that the raids yielded crucial materials that will aid in investigations.

The raid comes a month after EACC summoned Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam over allegations of embezzlement of public funds in the county.
