Sakaja Weighs In on Shock Resignation of Githurai Ward MCA

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has commented on the resignation of Githurai Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Deonysias Mwangi Waithira.

Speaking hours after the MCA’s resignation, Sakaja noted he will have a meeting with Mwangi to discuss the matter.

“I saw the news online yesterday about the Githurai Ward representative resigning. I will ask him today to understand what is happening. As a leader, you must be ready to face challenges. The path of leadership is tough, even for Jesus,” said Sakaja.

The County boss went on to claim that he has been informed that Mwangi got a green card and will be going abroad.

MCA Deonysias Mwangi Waithira officially tendered his resignation on September 17, 2025.

In a letter to the Speaker of the Nairobi City County Assembly, he noted that his exit from office will take effect on November 1, 2025.

He further argued that his resignation was not merely a personal decision but a reflection of the growing frustration among Githurai residents, whose voices and concerns had long been ignored.

By stepping down, Mwangi stated that he hoped to shine a spotlight on the failures of the county administration and draw urgent attention to the plight of his ward.

According to Mwangi, weak enforcement of Assembly resolutions and delays in releasing Ward Office funds had crippled service delivery in Githurai.

He highlighted dilapidated roads in Githurai, including the Cifu Road, Rurii Powerline Road, Chiro Road, Mucoe Road, Kweche Road, and Kirogo Road.

He further criticized the County Executive for failing to commence work on the Githurai Sports Ground, despite repeated assurances for more than two years that the project would be prioritized.

Mwangi added that this neglect had been compounded by misrepresentation in official executive reports, which he said painted an inaccurate picture of progress on the ground.
