Gachagua Calls for the Arrest of Police Officers who Attacked His Allies in Murang’a

DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua has called for the arrest of police officers who were responsible for attacking his allies as they were leaving a church service in Murang’a on Sunday.

In a statement on his official accounts the former DP claimed that the police officers in the country should always ensure that they follow the constitution as they carry out their duties and refrain from being used to conduct barbaric acts.

He went on to note that top security chiefs, including the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, as well as the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, should focus on ensuring that every Kenyan citizen is well protected.

“I call for the immediate arrest and arraignment of these criminals and police officers. I want to remind the police officers being misused by William Ruto and, by extension, the inspector general of police, Douglas Kanja, that justice will be served no matter how long it takes,” Gachagua said.

According to Gachagua, the recurrent attacks police officers have been dispensing to his allies and other Kenyans in public places would make it even harder for the government to regain the confidence and trust of Kenyans.

On Sunday, July 27, Gachagua’s allies, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu were teargassed as they were leaving a church service.

The leaders who were headed to a rally were blocked by the police at Ngonda Shopping Centre, prompting them to cut their journey short.

The leaders were seen trying to negotiate with the security personnel but the situation escalated, as police lobbed tear gas at the individuals, which forced them to turn away and flee.

Following the events, several individuals were injured and vehicles were also damaged.
