The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has dismissed claims of conducting a fundraising to bail out those who were arrested during the recent protests.
In a statement on Saturday, July 17, the society said it had received reports of individuals purporting to be its members.
LSK reports that unsuspecting members are running a fundraising program not affiliated with the organization.
Members of the public have therefore been urged to be vigilant against such fraudulent schemes and to verify such appeals before making any contributions.
“We advice members of the public to verify such appeals before making any contributions. Beware of fraudulent schemes”
This comes at a time when hundreds of Kenyans who participated in the protest are still being held in police cells and remand prisons across the country.
While others are yet to be fully charged in court, others have already been charged with offences such as terrorism but remain in remand due to being unable to pay bond or bail.
