Democracy of the Citizens Party (DCP) youth leaders James Kawanjiru and Wanjiku Thiga have been released on Ksh 50k bail on Wednesday, July 16.
This follows a ruling by Magistrate Patrick Kiage at the Kahawa Law Courts, who declined the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) to detain the two youth leaders.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua took the opportunity to thank the lawyers who stood with all the youth leaders.
“DCP Party would like to take this opportunity to thank all lawyers who took part in ensuring justice is served”, Gachagua wrote.
The two were among the individuals arrested in connection with the Gen-Z-led demonstrations, which destroyed several government offices.
Following their arrest, the DPP approved terrorism charges.
Their arrest sparked a wide outrage among Kenyans, and Gachagua, who condemned their arrest and the use of terrorism laws against protesters.
