Residents of Baringo South have been left in awe after thieves broke into the area’s only mortuary and vandalised it.
The mortuary is reportedly to be the only facility serving both Baringo South and the neighbouring Tiaty constituency.
Reports indicate that the thieves not only took the body tray but also carted away vital power cables.
The facility is now deserted and overgrown with bushes, which has forced the bereaved families to transport their deceased loved ones to distant towns such as Kabarnet and Nakuru.
The local elders condemned the incident, claiming that it is the high demand for scrap metal in the town that has made idle youths go to extremes and vandalise even mortuaries.
