Police Station Set On Fire in Nyamira After Shooting Incident

Itibo Patrol base in Bonyunyu, Nyamira County was set ablaze on Tuesday, July 8, after a 19-year-old student was shot.

The incident occurred after a group of students staged a protest outside the offices of the local Member of the County Assembly.

Police officers were then deployed to disperse the huge crowd that had gathered outside the MCA’s office.

As a result, one student was shot in the stomach during the operation and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

After that the protesters advanced to the patrol base and set it on fire.

This comes days after Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay County where the late Albert Ojwang was initially detained before being transferred to Central Police Station was torched.

Notably, on June 27, Ndunyu Njeru Police Station in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, was also torched by angry residents after a police officer allegedly shot and killed a man.

The locals had stormed the station to demand justice over rampant cattle theft in the area.
