Tanzania Proposes Mandatory Travel Insurance Fee for Incoming Tourists

The Tanzanian Ministry of Finance have announced a new rule requiring foreign tourists to pay an entry fee of Ksh. 5700.

The announcement was made on July 4, 2025, intending to reduce the burden on public healthcare systems.

The directive is expected to take effect starting January 2026 but will exclude citizens from the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries.

Travellers holding non-Kenyan passports or entering EAC/SADC territories could still be subject to the requirement.

The insurance policy will cover a range of emergency scenarios for tourists, including medical treatment, evacuation and repatriation, personal accidents, rescue operations and compensation for lost baggage.

It will be valid for 92 days and is expected to be purchased upon entry.
