Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Elisha Odhiambo has announced plans to take legal action against Dr. Fred Matiang’i over alleged extrajudicial killings in River Yala.
Odhiambo disclosed that he is on the final bit of a petition seeking to bar Dr. Fred Matiang’i from vying for the 2027 presidential bid.
“As MP for Gem, I had a meeting with lawyers last night having listened to the statement of Matiang’i confirming that several Kenyans who were butchered were thrown in River Yala, we are going to petition court so that we can hold him culpable as an individual for having thrown bodies in River Yala so that he can accountable as a former holder of Interior office”, the MP said.
According to the MP, the State sponsored the killings and body disposals that took place during Matiang’i’s tenure, justifying legal action and the fact that he should be disqualified from holding public office.
However, during a TV interview recently, Matiang’i distanced himself from the alleged cover-up of the River Yala killings.
He insisted that the investigations were still ongoing when he left office and that the matter should now be addressed through a public inquiry.
