The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has opposed the bid by senior police officers to halt their trial over the death of blogger Albert Ojwang.
OCS Talaam and Police Constable James Mukhwana had both petitioned the court to stop the trial, which was opposed by IPOA.
IPOA dismissed the petition as an abuse of the court process.
“The petitioner is simply trying to bypass the justice system. This court should not allow public officers to use legal loopholes to avoid facing the law”, IPOA said.

The authority also warned that granting the officers’ plea would set a troubling precedent, effectively shielding state actors from accountability in cases involving torture and extrajudicial killings.
IPOA further urged the court to dismiss the application in its entirety and allow the murder trial to continue without interference.
The two senior police officers are being implicated in blogger Albert Ojwang’s death who died while in custody at Central Police Station, which sparked concerns among the public.
