At the intersection of Uhuru Highway and Haile Selassie Avenue, Kenyans were forced to alight and walk into town as police blocked matatus from entering the CBD.
Similar restrictions are in place along State House Road and City Hall Way.
There is a heavy deployment of anti-riot police officers in the Nairobi CBD with police water cannons already in place ahead of the protests.
Most businesses in the CBD area remain closed with minimal operations observed.
