Family: Mask Vendor Shot at June 17 Protest Not Improving

The family of Boniface Kariuki, the mask vendor who was shot during the June 17 protests in Nairobi, has disclosed that his condition is worsening.

Speaking in a press briefing outside Kenyatta National Hospital, the family revealed that the hospital has yet to issue them an official report.

However, they are allowed to see him, and from their observations, Kariuki’s health remains the same as he is still in the same condition in which he was admitted.

“Right now, I am very sad, I feel very bad because my son is still critically ill. I’d like them to return my son well, and the way he was”, Bonface Kariuki’s father said.

Doctors from KNH had revealed that Boniface was in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit after being shot in the head at close range.

He had also undergone two emergency surgeries, including a delicate neurosurgical procedure to remove a bullet lodged in his skull.

Currently, the family has revealed that the hospital bill stands at Ksh 1 million and might increase to more.
