The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has recently arrested 10 suspects during a crackdown on illicit substances in Homabay and Kisii counties.
In a statement, NACADA noted that two individuals in Oyugis, Homa Bay, were arrested after they were found in possession of suspected narcotics and contraband.
During the operation, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) recovered 400 packets of uncustomed Supermatch cigarettes, 14 packets of Oris cigarettes, and cash suspected to be proceeds from the illicit trade.

“One suspect was found in possession of what is believed to be cannabis sativa. The contraband cigarettes are thought to have been smuggled into the country without customs clearance, contravening revenue and trade regulations,” NACADA noted.
In a separate incident in Kisii, NACADA officers in collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS), DCI, and ANU raided a rental residence in Nyakongo Village.
The team recovered 134 brooms suspected of being narcotic substances and two 90 kg sacks of dried plant material believed to be cannabis sativa.
Eight suspects were arrested during the crackdown and are currently in police custody awaiting further legal action.
