Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s supporters are set to march to Karen residence of the Deputy President.
The former KICC board chairperson, Irungu Nyakera, revealed that on Tuesday, May 12, Gachagua allies will march to the official residence of the Deputy President to reclaim office.
In a statement on Monday 12, Nyakera stated that the peaceful procession would follow an international press conference at Chester House.
He added that pickups will be made in several Nairobi estates, including Kayole, Dandora, Muthurwa, Kawangware, Githurai, Pumwani, Mwiki, Utawala and Ngong.
According to him, the move comes after the latest ruling by the court of appeal that the former deputy president was duly elected into his seat in the 2022 general elections and thus needed to reclaim his seat.
On May 9, 20225, the Court of Appeal declared that Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu’s decision to empanel a three-judge bench to listen to Gachagua’s case was unconstitutional.
The court further directed Chief Justice Martha Koome to empanel a new three-judge bench within the next 14 days.
This was after Gachagua and his legal team had challenged his impeachment as DP and sought to bar his successor, DP Kindiki from assuming office.
