Harry Kane finally lifted the first trophy of his career on Saturday night, celebrating with wild, beer-soaked festivities on the pitch at the Allianz Arena. He stated that this achievement meant more to him than any individual goalscoring awards he has received.
The England captain scored his 25th goal of another impressive season in German football for champions Bayern Munich, contributing to a 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. This win brought additional joy to a Bundesliga title triumph that had already been confirmed the previous weekend without Bayern having to play.
Kane expressed that the three Premier League Golden Boots and the Golden Boot he won at the 2018 World Cup could not compare to being recognized as a Deutsche Meister and receiving his first winner’s medal.
After losing out in Premier League title races, a Champions League final, and League Cup finals, he had faced mockery from rival supporters for not winning silverware, so he admitted that securing a major honor was a huge relief.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Kane said, soaked in beer by his teammates. “It means more than any of the goalscoring awards, for sure. There’s no secret that this one thing has been missing from my resume. It felt like a weight on my shoulders, and now it has been lifted. I’ve received plenty of individual accolades and have been close to winning trophies on many occasions, but for one reason or another, it hasn’t quite worked out.”
