MCSK Refutes Claims of Ezekiel Mutua’s Dismissal

The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has denied claims that it has fired Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua.

The latest development followed reports that MCSK has fired Mutua effective April 3.

They further cautioned the public against engaging with him on official matters regarding the organisation.

However, in a statement on May 9, 2025, MCKS refuted the claims and maintained that Ezekiel Mutua is still the CEO and that the dismissal allegations were part of a smear campaign he blamed on former directors.

“The MCSK has noted with concern a false and malicious public notice published in the Daily Nation, which wrongly claims that Dr. Ezekiel Mutua is no longer the Chief Executive Officer of MCSK”, part of the statement read.

“We wish to clarify unequivocally that these allegations are entirely baseless. Dr. Ezekiel Mutua remains the legitimate CEO of MCSK. The individuals behind this notice are former directors whose terms ended on February 16 and who have no authority to speak or act on behalf of the Society”, the statement added.

According to the society, the former directors are campaigning against Mutua after he allegedly refused to approve over Ksh200 million in alleged arrears they wanted to be paid as they exited office in February.

MCSK, therefore, called on Kenyans and relevant stakeholders to disregard the notice making the rounds on social media stating that those behind are out to mislead and disrupt the society’s operations.
