Businessman Nahashon Aroko, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, surrendered to the police at Gigiri police station after being declared wanted in connection with the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were.
He is reported to have surrendered hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a warrant against him.
In a statement by the DCI, Nahashon was revealed as a person of interest in the brutal murder of MP Were.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations requests Philip Nahashon Aroko to surrender immediately to the nearest police station. He is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Hon.Charles Ong’ondo Were. Compliance with this request is mandatory”, part of their statement read.
However, Aroko maintained his innocence and told the investigators that he was not involved in the MP’s killing.
He further accused Governor Wanga of being behind his efforts to have him appear before the police over the incident.
“I saw the governor pushing so much for me to be called here. She is even making calls to the police so they can summon me. She has achieved it now”, he said.
The MP was shot dead while leaving parliament after he was caught in traffic on Ngong Road near City Mortuary.
Reports indicate that he was killed by an unknown individual who was on a motorbike.
This comes as the police are trying to solve the puzzle behind the murder of Were.
So far, ten suspects have been arrested and are under police custody as investigations continue.
The detectives also recovered two pistols during the investigations at one of the suspects’ residences, which the police linked to the murder of the MP by ballistic reports.
They also recovered a bag and a pair of shoes believed to have been used by the prime suspect during the commission of the crime.
