The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested 5 suspects in connection with explosives found in a Meru-bound passenger bus from Mombasa.
In a recent statement, DCI noted that a multi-agency security team was on routine patrol along the Kanyonyoo–Embu Highway when they intercepted a bus from Mombasa and discovered a cache of explosives.
The officers found a medium-sized white carton branded with the logo of a local milk production company.

Detectives from the Anti-Terrorist Police Unit (ATPU) and Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) arrested the key suspect, Brenda Imboyanga Makhulungu.
She was arrested in Mundutsu village, Kakamega County.
According to the DCI, the female suspect was identified as the registered sender of the package and had declared the explosives as “Dawa ya Maji” at Tahmeed’s Kakamega office.
The investigation further led to the arrest of two additional suspects, David Tindi Andala and John Kariuki Kung’u, in Meru town.
All five suspects are in custody in the ongoing probe.
