Crystal Palace drew 2-2 with second-placed Arsenal, twice coming from behind, which leaves Liverpool just one point away from being crowned Premier League champions for the second time in six seasons.
A draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield this Sunday would be enough for Arne Slot’s side to clinch their 20th league title, equaling Manchester United’s record. Liverpool currently leads Arsenal by 12 points.
Both Arsenal and Palace are primarily focused on their cup competitions, with the Gunners in the Champions League semi-finals and the Eagles at the same stage in the FA Cup. As a result, both managers opted to rest key players for this match.
Arsenal took an early lead at Emirates Stadium when center-back Jakub Kiwior scored a well-placed header from a Martin Odegaard free kick in the third minute.
While Palace seemed dangerous in their attacks, they were also vulnerable defensively. Oliver Glasner’s side equalized with a cleverly orchestrated set-piece in the 27th minute. Adam Wharton played the ball to the edge of the area, where Eberechi Eze volleyed a shot into the ground. The ball struck the post and eventually bounced into the net.
Leandro Trossard restored Arsenal’s lead just before half-time, connecting with a pass from Jurrien Timber and squeezing a shot into the bottom corner.
The Eagles pressed for an equalizer and had good chances with headers from Justin Devenny and Ismaila Sarr, but both missed good contact with the ball.
Palace leveled the score for a second time through substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta. He capitalized on a careless loose pass from William Saliba, picking up the ball 25 yards out and executing an excellent chip over the stranded Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
Gunners fans may be concerned about the absence of Ben White and Mikel Merino from the squad, as boss Mikel Arteta did not provide details on their injuries. When asked if they would be fit to face PSG on Tuesday, Arteta stated, “We will have to wait and see as they were not able to be in the squad here.”
