Leeds and Burnley Seal Automatic Promotion to the Premier League

Leeds United and Burnley have secured automatic promotion back to the Premier League after defeating Stoke City and Sheffield United, respectively, in the Championship on Monday.

Leeds won impressively against Stoke City with a score of 6-0. They knew that as long as Sheffield United did not win their match against Burnley, they would secure their return to the top flight. A victory for Burnley would guarantee automatic promotion for both teams.

Burnley clinched a 2-1 victory with two goals from Josh Brownhill, confirming both Leeds and Burnley as Premier League clubs for the 2025/26 season.

Joel Piroe shone for Leeds, scoring four goals in the first half. This performance helped Leeds to a commanding 5-0 lead at halftime. Piroe’s quadruple brings his total to 19 goals in the Championship, placing him first in the race for the Golden Boot, two goals ahead of his nearest competitor, Borja Sainz of Norwich City.

Leeds’ promotion marks a return to the Premier League for their manager, Daniel Farke, who previously led Norwich City to the top flight in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons. He managed a total of 49 Premier League matches during his time with the Canaries.

This achievement also represents the third time Burnley head coach Scott Parker has secured promotion with a Championship side, having previously done so with Fulham in 2019/20 and AFC Bournemouth in 2021/22.
