A family in Ongata Rongai, is in mourning after their kin was killed by a lioness roaming in the area.
The 13-year-old Peace Mwende was playing with two of her friends in their compound on Saturday, April 19 evening, when the lioness attacked her.
According to reports, the lioness dragged Mwende into a nearby river and ate 80 percent of her body.

Recounting the last moment of the 13-year-old, Mwende’s father, Kennedy Kigen noted that he heard her daughter screaming and rushed outside only to find the lioness dragging his daughter away.
His efforts to rescue her daughter from the lioness were, however, futile.
“I was nearby when I heard screams. I came outside to try and help, only to find my child being carried away by the lioness. We tried to follow, but we couldn’t save her,” Kigen narrated.
Reacting to the incident, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) announced that it has deployed rangers and set a trap for the roaming lioness.
Elsewhere, a 54-year-old man in Nyeri was on Friday, April 18, attacked by an elephant as he was grazing his livestock.
The man is said to have sustained serious chest injuries, fractured ribs, and internal trauma.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.
