Sabina Chege Reveals New Details Related to Nduta’s Execution Case in Vietnam

Nominated MP Sabina Chege has finally revealed new insight into Nduta’s fate following diplomatic efforts to save her life.

Speaking in a recent interview, Chege noted that the Kenyan government successfully intervened to halt Nduta’s scheduled execution.

According to Sabina, the Kenyan embassy in Bangkok contacted Vietnamese authorities, triggering a chain of events that gave Nduta a lifeline.

The case was appealed. Nduta did not even have a lawyer, and so the government stepped in to help her get one. Through the appeal, she now has a second chance to give her story,” Chege noted.

Commenting on the case, Chege maintained that Nduta may have been a victim of rogue agents who exploit vulnerable Kenyans looking for job opportunities abroad.

She moreover defended Nduta against speculation that she was a seasoned drug mule.

Chege further noted that there is still a chance Nduta could be brought back to Kenya to face trial under local jurisdiction, depending on how the appeal unfolds.

The 37 year old was found with two kilograms of drugs at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

According to court proceedings, Nduta was hired in July 2023 by a fellow Kenyan to transport a suitcase to Laos, a country in Asia and she was instructed to hand over the suitcase to a woman in Laos and then return with unspecified ‘goods’.

Nduta was reportedly paid $1,300 for the task, and her travel expenses, including plane tickets, were fully covered.

In her defence, Nduta claimed she was unaware that the suitcase contained drugs when she received it.

However, prosecutors argued that this statement was an attempt to evade responsibility, asserting that she was accountable for the illegal substances she transported.

Nduta was then found guilty and handed down a death sentence on Thursday, March 6.
