Benson Omala’s Unlucky Day as Sofapaka Dissappoints Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia faced disappointment as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka, with Benson Omala having two of his goals ruled out for offside.

Austine Odhiambo almost opened the scoring just seconds into the match when he fired a shot with his left foot, forcing Sofapaka’s goalkeeper to make a crucial save by punching the ball away for a corner.

Sofapaka missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 33rd minute, failing to capitalize on a defensive error and sending their shot wide of the goal.

In the final moments of two minutes of added time, Gor Mahia thought they had broken the deadlock with a goal from Benson Omala, but the referee signaled for offside.

In the 59th minute, Omala found himself unlucky once again as another of his goals was disallowed for offside, leading to frustration among Gor Mahia fans, who voiced their discontent towards the linesman.

Gor Mahia fans had to wait until the 66th minute to celebrate as Austine Odhiambo took a well-executed free kick that Joshua Onyango headed into the net, sending supporters into jubilant cheers.

However, substitute Douglas Kibet equalized for Sofapaka in the 90th minute, tapping in a rebound from an Edward Omondi effort. Although Sofapaka could have gone ahead just before that, Captain Humphery Mieno’s shot was deflected onto the post and went wide.

With this drawn match, Gor Mahia moves up to second place with 48 points, just one point behind leaders Police FC, who have 49 points. Sofapaka’s performance allows them to leapfrog AFC Leopards into seventh place with 38 points.
