NPS Respond After Gachagua Says His Life Is in Danger

The National Police Service and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen have issued a response to Rigathi Gachagua after the former Deputy President claimed there have been several attempts on his life.

In a statement, the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, asked Gachagua to notify the police of his movements to allow officers to plan his security.

“In light of Hon. Gachagua’s security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures and to notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination of his security arrangements,” read the statement in part.

NPS moreover maintained that it was committed to addressing the security concerns of the former DP and securing the country.

Police further noted that they were not affiliated with any political faction, adding that they were mandated to protect all Kenyans regardless of who they are.

“NPS assures the public that the security situation nationwide remains stable, and proactive measures have been implemented to prevent criminal activities and police shall dutifully respond to all security needs where and when requested as provided for under the law. As a Service, we remain apolitical and steadfast in proactively deploying intelligence-led measures to preempt and respond to security threats through multi-agency approaches while strictly upholding the rule of law and human rights,” read the statement in part.

The response comes hours after the former DP had claimed that his life was in danger while citing various violent incidents witnessed at his functions

He also claimed that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja had withdrawn his security.

“Take firm notice that might further violence and assassination attempts be meted on me whatsoever, you will be personally responsible to the people of the Republic of Kenya and the entire world,” Gachagua stated.
