Coffin Shop Sparks Outrage Near Special Needs School

A coffin business set up near the school gate of St. Monica Special School for Mentally Challenged Children in Embu has caused an uproar in the community.

The establishment of the coffin workshop shocked the principal of the school since it was near an Institution with 140 students who have mental challenges.

According to Principal Stephen King’ori, the sight of the coffins could pause trauma to the learners.

“The presence of coffins so close to our leaners is not only insensitive but could cause psychological harm”, he stated.

In a twist of events, unknown people invaded the place and demolished it shortly after the principal raised a concern.

It is unclear who was behind the demolition.

The principal, in a separate note, also highlighted that all the students in her school are enrolled under the Competency-Based Curriculum(CBC).

“This models allow our pupils to progress at their own pace, ensuring they fully grasp concepts before moving forward”, she noted.

He further called on education stakeholders to channel more resources into special needs institutions.
