Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has appointed the new Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO.
In a statement on April 11, 2025, the Ministry of Health announced that Dr. Mercy Mwangangi is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SHA.
Dr. Mwangangi, who is currently the Senior Health Strengthening Director at AMREF Health Africa has been campaigning for health financing and health security investments across Africa.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to announce the appointment of Dr. Mercy Mwangangi as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Social Health Authority”, part of the statement read.
“Dr. Mwangangi, a health financing and policy expert with over 15 years of experience in universal health coverage (UHC), instututional reform and health systems strengthening, a proven leader in health governance, resource mobilization, and strategic partnerships, with an exceptional track record of driving policy transformation and financing reforms in Kenya’s healthcare landscape is poised to lead SHA into the next chapter” the statement added.
Additionally, Mwangangi has a degree in medicine from the University of Nairobi which she graduated from in 2009 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
She further studied master’s degree in Health economics and analysis.
The Ministry is, therefore, confident that the new CEO will steer SHA and deliver its mandate.
