The Supreme Court has declined Miss Ruth Kamande’s appeal and upheld her life sentence for the murder of her boyfriend, Farid Mohammed Halim.
The former Miss Langa’ata woman was convicted after stabbing Halim 25 times in 2015.
In the appeal she had filed, she sought to initiate the concept of ‘battered woman syndrome’ as a defense and argued that he case raised issues of general public importance.
Nevertheless, the court ruled that the defense was neither raised during her trial at the High Court nor her appeal.

According to the court, Kamande’s testimony proved that her relationship with Halim was romantic, and there was no evidence that the accused was in an abusive relationship.
Therefore, there were zero chances to support a battered woman’s defense.
The convict had appealed to the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal upheld her life sentence in 2020.
The court ruling means that Kamande will continue to serve her life sentence and puts an end to her bid for a reduced prison term.
