Demolition was carried out in Mombasa, which sent a massive cloud of dust into the air.
Before the demolition, the building, located near Abdel Nasser Road, had been declared structurally unfit by a multi-agency team.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir confirmed that the decision to demolish the building followed concerns raised by residents and experts that it would collapse.
During the demolition, one fatal incident was reported, but there were no casualties.
However, the Mombasa County boss confirmed that the fatal incident witnessed was proven by the CCTV that the man was seen entering the building just before it collapsed.
Additionally, he has gone missing since then.
The governor has therefore assured that during the cleaning of the area, they will try and find the body to put closure for the family.
He added that the Department of Lands was in the process of clearing the area.
He further stated that the building inspectors who signed and were entrusted with the demolition will be intact until the verification is confirmed that what they signed is what is in the ground.
