Gachagua Accuses Ruto of Sending Goons to Attack Him During a Church Service

Former DP Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence after a church service he was attending in Mwiki was subjected to chaos on Sunday, April 6.

Gachagua blamed the chaos witnessed at Mwiki PCEA Church on President William Ruto and Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja.

Gachagua moreover slammed the president for allegedly sponsoring goons to infiltrate a church, saying the attacks on him had reached a different level.

“My President. What happened to you? In a church? You have reached a different level. You sent me goons in Limuru last week, you sent goons to Nyeri, and now you’ve sent them to church. You have become bold,” the former deputy president lamented.

The former DP further accused the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service of deliberately failing to uphold security at Mwiki, despite their obligation as per the Constitution.

According to Gachagua, the police were under specific instructions not to provide security to any of his events.

Gachagua went on to claim that the president’s relationship with the PCEA church was irreparably damaged.

The Sunday incident saw security officers associated with former DP Rigathi Gachagua fire into the air to disperse hundreds of youths who had stormed the PCEA Kasarani East church.

Reports indicated that the security officers linked to the former DP acted after goons stormed the church, allegedly demanding cash payments for them to attend the event.

The goons gained entry into the church and broke chairs used by the congregants during the service.

They were mainly dressed in military fatigues and combat gear, raising fears about their intention.

The standoff forced the organisers of the event to momentarily stop the service as some of the congregants were forced to scamper for safety following the standoff.

During the incident, a vehicle belonging to Gachagua was stoned, with the windows shattered.

The presiding bishop of the church condemned the incident, maintaining that it was an infringement on the freedom of worship.
